Staying Cool This Summer
As summer arrives and the temperature outside begins to soar, your body heats up faster. To stay cool and beat the heat, follow these tips:
- ·Stay hydrated! Don’t depend on your thirst to tell you whether or not your body needs a refill. If you’re gearing up for physical activities, make sure you drink water a few hours before and after you’re done.
- ·Stay away from drinks that have caffeine, lots of sugar, or carbonation.
- Eating fruit is another way to keep your body cool. Pack peaches, plums, melons, grapes, or freeze 100% fruit juice and bits of real fruit in ice cube trays and add them to water.
- ·Try to limit the time you spend outside during the hottest part of the day, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Otherwise, try to find a shady bike path to ride or skate on, or take a dip in a pool.
- Wear clothing that is loose fitting and lightly colored.
