Caring for our communities
WELL INTO THE FUTURE
Kaiser Permanente is highly and uniquely qualified to meet the challenge
of health care and trauma needs of our fast growing communities. Our
selection as an Adult Level II Trauma Center validates that our medical
center is highly and uniquely qualified to provide this critical, life-saving
service to our communities in the growing south county area.
Kaiser Permanente is committed to providing the highest quality trauma
care to victims of major injury in south Sacramento County. Since 1999
the medical center has been expanding and developing resources to provide
first-class trauma care for the community. The hospital is on schedule
to complete a $300 million expansion – including Level II Trauma
Care. The Kaiser Permanente trauma program is expected to open in 2009.
By adding the expertise and resources of Kaiser Permanente, the Sacramento
County trauma system will realize greater flexibility during times of
heavy trauma volume and disasters. Kaiser Permanente's Level II Trauma
Center will provide the most comprehensive panel of emergency care specialists
in the region. Kaiser Permanente is the Sacramento region's largest
health care provider, and has the largest medical group in Greater Sacramento
with nearly 1,200 physicians. In several specialized services, Kaiser
Permanente has unique, highly trained physicians able to perform life-saving
procedures. Among the resources that would be provided to the community
are:
- Ten general surgeons, including four with trauma fellowship training
- An emergency room staffed with 25 physicians, all of whom have
trained at Level I Trauma Centers from around the country
- Ten neurosurgeons, three of whom are ATLS certified—more
than the combined resources of all other trauma centers in Sacramento
County—two neuro-interventionalists, and three neuro-radiologists
- Eight orthopedic surgeons
- A facial fracture panel of eight oral, otolaryngologic and plastic
surgeons
- Three hand specialists
- 18 anesthesiologists, with in-house presence 24 hours a day
- 16 radiologists, including three interventionalists
- One of the most established and largest rehabilitation facilities
in Northern California at Vallejo
In 2001, a $30 million emergency room and radiology expansion was completed,
providing the largest emergency room in the area with 38 treatment beds
and a 10-bed minor treatment unit. The expansion included:
- State-of-the-art interventional radiology suite
- 64-slice CT scan technology and MRI unit
- Ultrasound technology for rapid diagnosis
