“Mother’s Tea” helps new moms feel at home Our South Sacramento Medical Center is making our new moms feel at home by offering them hot tea or hot chocolate and cookies. It has proven to be very popular. “It was nice. I was surprised,” said Chidinma Igbokwe, who gave birth to twins—her first children—at our medical center. “It makes you feel at home.” For the “Mother’s Tea,” each night nurses visit each new mom and offer them a cup of warm tea and a cookie. They even top off the hot chocolate with whipped cream, which has proven to be especially popular. South Sacramento’s diverse population was considered in selecting the tea and cookies. Marian Mitrang, a nurse who has worked in Perinatal for 15 years, said these extra steps helps new moms feel special. “It seems so simple, but we knew we would appreciate it as moms,” Mitrang said. “A lot of the credit goes to our nurses for the personal touch they provide when giving the tea and cookies to our patients,” said Rebecca Pellechi, Food Services manager, South Sacramento. “We couldn’t do it without them.”
